Oh, we can’t have that going on, children (the Constitution tells us so)

Oregon school district puts the kabosh on senior class motto.

The seniors of McKenzie High School, in Oregon, chose as their motto: “They that believe shall mount up with wings as eagles.” The motto has its basis in the Bible verse Isaiah 40:31, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles.” The superintendent, who in my opinion is insipid, was alerted by announcement printer that the motto *gasp* might have a connection to the Bible. She ran it by the district attorney who said, “No way, no how” to the continuance of the class motto.

This is the kicker quote that formed my opinion of the superintendent:

“My duty is to follow the law in this case – the U.S. Constitution – which doesn’t allow public schools to either interfere with the practice of religion or establish a religious practice,”

Show me, Sally Storm, where the U.S. Constitution mentions public school once. Oh, I remember now, it mentions that education is a state matter, not a federal one. Public schools are not part of a government branch, no matter how much you wish they were, Ms. Storm.

While the article says most of the senior class has accepted the decision of the district, I hope the holdouts rally, to show the Sally Storms out there that their understanding of the separation of church and state is skewed. Furthermore, the Sally Storms out there have to be re-educated on the unconstitutional nature of the federal Department of Education and federal meddling in the education arena.
