I agree with Shaun, however. I think dogs can look up. I know Miss Virginia can. She’s got the gooeyest Belgian chocolate eyes, and she’s definitely one to wear her emotions on her paw.
When Kayely was over for knitting yesterday, Miss Virginia wandered in from the warehouse to say hello. She waggled her hiney and allowed Kayely to give her a pet. But when I started to talk to Miss Virginia, my friend noted how this pup only had eyes for me.
It’s funny how dogs latch on to their people, and how temperamental they can be when things aren’t just so. When Lew and I had a chance to travel and visit some friends, DHG took care of Miss Virginia. After we’d been gone a day, our pup became so depressed she wouldn’t even get up for a biscuit treat; very odd, because she’s one food motivated dog. Usually, she just about knocks over DHG when offered a treat. When we came home, Miss Virginia wouldn’t look at Lew or me. We’d call her, pet her and offer a treat. No way! She needed a day to heal; she definitely appreciated our return but she wasn’t about to show off to her typical, loyal self until she’d had a chance to sulk a bit.
Here’s a photo of Miss Virginia I snapped a year ago. It’s not very good, but you can see her sweet face. She’s even smiling a bit. I love it when she smiles. When I take her for a walk on the trail by the river, she grins her toothy grin as she snuffles the ivy and grass growing along the riverside of the trail. When she looks up at me, a few teeth poking through that grin, her eyes sparkle with joy.

It has been agreed that dogs can look up from a sitting positon, or belly-up. Please post a picture of your dog looking up while in a standard position, all 4 paws on ground and standing. Otherwise, Big Al is right.
There’s a photo in this post It’s a dogs’ life montage where Skeeter has all four legs on the floor and it looking up at the camera
Happy Valentines Day LewLew,
That will be news to a lot of dogs that they can’t look up.
