The b word

I brood sometimes. I don’t necessarily want to—- I don’t find it pleasurable or uplifting. Worrying or being moody doesn’t make a situation better and can inhibit one’s ability to single out helpful possibilities.
I think this brooding is a bit of a bad habit, but how does one go about breaking it? What [...]

I missed the lunar eclispe =(

I wasn’t feeling well on Monday, so I didn’t set my alarm to get up and see the lunar eclipse early Tuesday morning. Here’s a gallery of photos of the event, taken from different locations around the world.
Did you get a chance to see it?

Lunar Eclipse Tuesday

Total Lunar Eclipse on Tuesday.
It’s supposed to be visible from the U.S., although East Coasters will only have about 30 minutes of viewing time before the sun begins to rise in the East horizon.
Since the Earth is bigger than the moon, the process of the Earth’s shadow taking a bigger and bigger “bite” out [...]

Relishing nice surprises

Today has been an exceptionally cool exercise in paying it forward. Tee secured a ride to football practice with a neighbor kid. I picked them up at practice after work and dropped the boy off at his home.
His mom offered us this gi-normous trout her younger son caught on a fishing trip at [...]

Lists and songs— chocolate and red wine are almost as good

I’ve been following Michelle’s progress over at a big victory. She’s set out to compile a list of 300 bands, 300 songs.
It’s a bit like a delicious game of hide and seek. Take the time to poke into unnoticed corners and peruse lonely solo comments. I’ve found it to be quite fun, since [...]

The June Cleaver image is imaginary fluff so let it go

I started to opine about working women wanting a “wife”. I thought I saved the post but NOOOOOOOOOO. It’s gone, poof. Ah well, not much of a loss.
Here’s the short version of my opinion, for what it’s worth: it’s my opinion that working women (actually women, in general) need to loosen up [...]

The scene at the shop

We’re getting pretty settled in the shop. We have most of our stuff unpacked, plus we put a few pieces of equipment we don’t need anymore up for sale. Our office is functional, but we’re picking up a few more pieces of furniture to finish unpacking our files and organize our books and supplies.
We [...]

Pissed Off Patriot Tour

Lew took me out to lunch yesterday after we bummed around the local farmers market.  While we waited for our meal, I was gazing out the restaurant’s front window, people watching.  I saw a ancient van in traffic that was painted red, white and blue with particle board flames attached to the back side panels.  [...]

Here’s a Washington, and his friend…. Washington

When I was a small girl, I asked my mom why we used money. Why couldn’t we give extras of what we had no use for to those who needed it, or exchange things we had for things we needed? Mom replied, “That’s communism, dear. We’re not communists.”
This exchange occurred during the [...]

Goodnight, not goodbye

On Monday, Lew’s grandmother was laid to rest. She was a devout Catholic, so a Rosary service was held Sunday evening with a wake-ish bbq for family and friends after the Rosary. Monday was the funeral mass, with communion, incense and so on.
She was 94 when she passed. She lived through the [...]
